JDIFF 2014 | 'A Long Way From Home', rebelling against old age
I have already told you that I recently had the opportunity to visit Ireland to attend the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival ( JDIFF ) , whose 12th edition is closing this Sunday. I saw four films there, 'Only Lovers Left Alive' (Jim Jarmusch, 2013), 'Calvary' (John Michael McDonagh, 2014), 'Big Sur' (Michael Polish, 2013) and 'A Long Way From Home' (2013 ).
The latter is the debut of Virginia Gilbert , whose father is the director Brian Gilbert, known for directing 'Not Without My Daughter' ('Not Without My Daughter', 1991). The debut of writer-director is based on actual experience and is dedicated to his parents. The story revolves around Joseph ( James Fox ) and Brenda ( Brenda Fricker ), a veteran marriage that fulfills his dream of retiring to live in the south of France.
